CoSIDA Academic All-District Release
Four Empire 8 women’s soccer players have been named CoSIDA Academic All-District First-Team. CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) released its teams for all three NCAA Divisions throughout eight geographic districts in the United States and Canada.
Houghton senior Emilie Edwards, Ithaca junior Jessica Warren, and St. John Fisher senior Chelsea Oberkrieser are District 3 honorees while senior midfielder Bridget Barden of Stevens Institute of Technology made the District 2 team.
Edwards has started all 15 games she has played this season, leading Houghton to a 12-3-1 record. She anchors a defensive unit that has allowed just seven goals on the season and posted ten shutouts. Edwards boasts a 3.81 grade-point average in psychology.
Warren has played in 16 games for the Bombers, making 12 starts in 2013. She has recorded seven points this season, ranking fourth on the team. Warren majors in Clinical Health Studies with a 4.00 gpa.
Oberkrieser has three goals and nine assists in 19 games as she has helped lead the Cardinals to their fifth straight Empire 8 tournament. Off the field she has a 3.90 gpa as a Nursing major.
Barden, a Chemical Engineering major with a 3.76 gpa, earns the honor for the third time in her career. Freshmen are not eligible for the award, which means Barden has earned as many first-team honors as possible. She ranks second for the 8-8 Ducks this season in points with 13, goals with five and assists with three. Barden has netted three game-winning goals this season in all 16 matches which is tops on the squad.
