Hartwick Selected to ECAC Metro Tournament

ONEONTA, NY- The Hartwick women's soccer team was selected to participate in the 2013 ECAC Metro Tournament as pairings were announced by the conference earlier tonight. This is the second straight year that the team will make an ECAC appearance.

The Hawks will be the #7 seed and travel to Newburgh, NY on Wednesday to face the #2 seed Mount St. Mary. The game will mark the first ever meeting between the two schools. Richard Stockton was selected as the tournament's top seed. The rest of the field includes #3 Kean, #4 St Joseph's College (LI), #5 College of Staten Island, #6 SUNY College at Old Westbury, and #8 College of Mount St. Vincent.

In the first-round contests on Wednesday, Richard Stockton will host College of Mount Saint Vincent at 6 p.m. while the Knights will face the Hawks at 4 p.m. at Mount St. Mary's Kaplan Field. Kean plays SUNY College at Old Westbury at 2 p.m. at Kean and St. Joseph's College (LI) will take on College of Staten Island at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's (LI).

The first-round winners will advance to the semifinals on Saturday hosted by the highest remaining seed. The winner of Richard Stockton/Mount Saint Vincent will face the winner of St. Joseph's (LI)/College of Staten Island in one semifinal and the winner of Mount Saint Mary/Hartwick and the winner of Kean/SUNY College at Old Westbury in the other semifinal. The semifinal winners will meet Sunday, Nov. 17 for the championship at the same site.

'Wick finished the regular season with a record of 8-7-4 and won three out its last four games to qualify for postseason play. The Hawks are led in scoring by the combination of Cristina Sicari (St. James, NY/Smithtown East) and Allyson Daniels (Pembroke, NH/Pembroke Academy) who have both scored seven times. Sicari has four helpers for a team-high 18 points while Daniels has two assists for 16 points. Angela Luizzi (Albany, NY/Guilderland) is second on the Hawks with six goals and 17 points while adding a team-high five assists. Goalie Annie Millar (Illion, NY/Illion) has started six games and surrendered seven goals with two shutouts.

The Knights completed the 2013 season with a record of 15-5. They lost to Farmingdale State in the Skyline Conference Championship final 2-0 on Saturday. The team is led by Shanice Robe who has scored 25 goals and has two assists for a total of 52 points. Goalie Jacquelyn Mancini has started every game and surrendered 13 goals with seven shutouts.

This will be the 'Wick's sixth appearance in the ECAC Tournament. Hartwick has gone in 1985, 1991, 1992, 1995, and 2012. In 1992, the Hawks captured the ECAC Mid-Atlantic title.
