Utica 82, St. Lawrence 81 (Box)
The Utica College men's basketball will move onto Saturday's championship game of the Hilbert College Tip-Off Tournament after defeating St. Lawrence 82-81 in an opening round match up on Friday night. UC's Chris Jeffers (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) led the way for the Pioneers 14 points and 12 rebounds, while point guard Aaron Nevins (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) added 17 points and seven assists. 

The contest featured 12 lead changes, including four in the second half -- and St. Lawrence tied the game on eight different occasions -- but the Pioneers were able to hang on for the victory.  St. Lawrence's last lead of the contest was 71-70 with 6:55 to go in regulation, but the Pioneers outscored the Saints 12-10 in the final 6:33 to earn the one point victory.  FULL STORY


Hartwick 89, Ursinus 73 (Box)
Four players scored in double figures for the Hartwick men's basketball team as the Hawks defeated Ursinus 89-73 at the Homewood Suites Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Messiah College on Friday afternoon. Hartwick led for all but 1:11 of the game.

In his debut in a Hartwick uniform, Joey Lufkin (Argyle, NY/Argyle) led 'Wick with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. He was three-of-four from beyond the three-point arc. Jared Suderley (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) added 17 points while shooting 6-of-11 from the floor and added nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals. He was 3-of-4 in three pointers.

Matt Petruccione (Saratoga Springs, NY/Bishop Maginn) scored 15 points. Kyle Bradley (Cornwall, NY/Mansfield University) added 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. FULL STORY


Nazareth 83, Sage College 64 (Box)
Senior Brad Ford posted game highs in points (23) and rebounds (13) for host Nazareth Friday as the Golden Flyers triumphed in their season-opener for men's basketball with an 83-64 victory over Sage Colleges.

The game was played in the opening round of the BSG Tournament at Nazareth's Kidera Gymnasium. Fredonai defeated Union, 98-89, in Friday's first game. Nazareth will host Fredonia in Saturday's championship game at 4 p.m. Union and Sage will play in the consolation game at 2 p.m.

The Golden Flyers surged to a 16-5 in the opening 6:45 to take control of the contest in the first half. Nazareth trailed 5-4 before scoring the next 12 points. During the run, sophomore Maurice Mills had consecutive baskets, including a dunk. Sophomore Mitch Ford converted a pair of free throws, then Brad Ford connected on a pair of free throws on Nazareth's next possession after he created the offensive opportunity with a steal. Senior Jack Giles added a two-point jumper, and the run was capped by Mills connecting on one of two free throws.

With 10:09 remaining in the first half, the Gators trimmed their deficit to five points, 16-11, but Nazareth scored the next five points to pull away. Mitch Ford converted a three-point play, which was followed by a layup by Giles. The Golden Flyers maintained their multiple possession lead throughout the end of the period, and Giles' three-point basket with eight seconds remaining provided Nazareth a 42-31 lead at the break.  FULL STORY


Haverford 77, Ithaca 67 (Box)
The Ithaca College men's basketball team (0-1) lost to Haverford (1-0) Friday night, falling to the Fords by a score of 77-67 in the opening game of the season at the Equinox Classic.

Senior Tom Sweeney (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) led all Bombers with 17 points, adding seven rebounds, two assists and a block. Senior Chris Jordan (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) chipped in with 14 points and led Ithaca with four assists and four steals. Senior Frank Mitchell (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) pulled down six rebounds and contributed eight points on the night.

The Bombers shot 42 percent from the floor in the contest, hitting 25 of their 59 attempts. Ithaca also recorded seven three pointers, going 7-of-19 from beyond the arc. FULL STORY  


Geneva 72, Houghton 59 (Box)
Brandon Camacho (Dundee, NY, Dundee High School) scored 17 points and freshman Johnathan Stowe (Toronto, ON, Canada, Don Mills Collegiate Institute) added 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Highlanders in a 72-59 loss to Geneva College in men's basketball action Friday night. The game was on the first night of the Geneva Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-off Tournament.

The early part of the contest went back and forth, but Geneva was able to gain an early edge and pushed the lead to 10 with just under four minutes in the half. They maintained that 10 point lead at the half, 37-27.

After Houghton trimmed the deficit to seven on a Camacho three pointer, the hosts regained control with a 12-2 run to take a 17-point lead (53-36) with just over 14 minutes to go. But the Highlanders would not go away, and scored the game's next 15 points to pull within two midway through the half. Michael Bova (Westfield, NY, Westfield Central) sparked the run with five straight points.

The Geneva lead bounced between two and eight points over the next three minutes, but Houghton wasn't able to get any closer. Up 59-55, Geneva scored the next 12 points to put the game out of reach.  FULL STORY
