Women's Cross Country Competes at ECAC championships

Three teams competed at the ECAC Championship at Colt State Park in Bristol, R.I. on Saturday.

Stevens Institute of Technology finished 21st as a squad out of 47 institutions. Alfred University placed 23rd and Utica had two runners participate.

Stevens raced five individuals at the meet and average 26:15.18 on the 6K course. Middlebury College won the championship with 30 team points and all six of its runners completed the course within the top 13 in a race that displayed 327 student-athletes.

Sophomore Janice Frontera paced the Ducks in 70th overall with a time of 24:50.71.

Freshman Sydney Slavik finished second among Stevens runners with a time of 25:59.71, while junior Christine Hecker was next in a time of 26:10.35.

The final Ducks' runners, freshman Elaina Ferrer and sophomore Sarah Zahran, finished the race in 26:40.88 and 27:34.23, respectively.

Alfred freshman Mary Baughman placed 21st in 23:25.21. Junior Tracie Forrester was 121st in 25:42.34 and freshman Abby Hampson was 155th in 26:33.61.

Utica senior Samantha Slattery guided the women as she placed 164th overall with a final time of 26:36.96, averaging a 7:08 mile.  Junior Savannah Bernardin finished 195th with a time of 27:17.82 while freshman Alexandra Bounadonna rounded out the Pioneer lineup in 287th with a clock of 30:40.02.
