ONEONTA, NY- The Hartwick swimming and diving teams followed their strong showing against Oneonta State on Saturday with another solid performance against the Engineers of RPI on Sunday afternoon. The men's team improved to 7-0 on the season with a 139-88 victory while the women won by the score of 134-96.
Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) and
Luke Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Acad.) both won two events each to lead the Hartwick men. Ranson was the winner of the 50 free (21.56) and the 100 free (47.78). Grunewald took first place in the 500 free (4:52.07) and the 1650 free (16:36.60). That time set a new Moyer Pool record.
Other winners on the day included
Luis Santiesteban (Key Largo, FL) in the 200 free (1:46.66),
Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan) in the 100 fly (53.69),
Alexander Gibson (San Leandro, CA/Castro Valley High) in the 100 back (55.25), and
Jeremy Torres (Poulsbo, WA/Central Kitsap) in the 100 breast (1:00.48). The 200 medley relay team of
Daniel MacElveen (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie), Torres, Detar, and
Joey Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) swam a winning time of 1:38.88. The 200 free relay team of Mulvehill, Santiesteban,
Matt Plunkett (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Cooper City), and Ranson were winners in a time of 1:28.41.
For the women,
Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman) swam to victories in two events. She won the 100 free (55.59) and the 200 IM (2:17.14). Rutigliano was also a member of the 200 free relay team along with
Helen Merkley (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady),
Rachel Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Acad.), and
Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL/Glenhard North) that swam to a winning time of 1:45.17.
Seven other swimmers won their respective races to help the lead the Hartwick women to the win.
Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Acad.) (1650 Free-18:17.49), Bellis (200 free-2:02),
Kelsey Elliot (Cortland, NY/Homer) (50 free-25.70),
Lindsay Bierwert (Leeds, MA/Northampton) (100 fly-1:02.18),
Allison Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) (100 back- 1:04.27), Campbell (500 free- 5:23.27), and
Clare Nelson (South Hadley, MA/South Hadley) (100 breast- 1:10.91) all were winners.
The 200 medley relay team of Agate, Nelson, Bierwert, and Elliot won in 1:55.47. Diver
Lindsay Bowker (Bothell, WA/Inglemoor) placed first in the three-meter diving competition with a score of 240.53.
Both teams will travel to Clinton, NY next weekend for a quad meet with host Hamilton, Ithaca, and SUNY Geneseo. Meet time will be at 12 p.m.
