Cahill to Represent E8 at Nationals
Senior
Michael Cahill of the Stevens Institute of Technology men's cross country team placed seventh overall at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional meet to
qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Hanover.
Championship information can be found on the
championship website.
Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 16 teams. Sixteen additional teams were selected at-large.
Fifty-six individuals, the first seven athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in each championship.
Cahill ran a time of 25:20.3 on the 8K course and was less than six seconds from placing in the top four runners at the regional meet. Cahill becomes the first men's runner in Stevens' history to qualify for the NCAA Championship and also the first to earn Atlantic All-Region honors.
"Mike Cahill is one of the hardest working and most committed athletes that I've coached," explained Justin Wood. "This started way before my time as his coach, he's been grinding away at improving for his entire four years and it finally paid off for him."
