The Alfred University men's basketball team forced a fast-pace tempo and applied full court pressure throughout a game that earned a distinct 108-70 decision over visiting Wells College, Tuesday evening at the McLane Center.
Junior guard
Ryan Mahon boosted the Saxons to a 22-point lead after hitting his fifth three-pointer as time expired at halftime. Mahon shot five for nine beyond the arc for 15 points and Alfred led 50-28 at halftime.
Alfred continued the pressing and fast pace of play as the second half resumed and the Express could not close the deficit.
A shared scoring effort contributed to Alfred's success. All 21 players entered the game and 19 of 21 posted at least a basket. Saxon scoring leaders included senior forward
Gerald Colas with 14 points and Mahon (five for 11 beyond the arc) with 15 points. Colas, among five other teammates, each posted a team-best five rebounds.
For the game, AU shot 40 percent (37-92) from the field, 32 percent (12-37) beyond the arc, and 65 percent (22-34) from the free throw line.
Cortland 63, Elmira 51 (

Four first half field goals by the Elmira College men's basketball team (0-3) proved to be too much to overcome as the Soaring Eagles fell on the road to non-conference opponent Cortland State (2-0), 63-51. Tonight's game was filled with whistles as 51 total personal fouls were called between the two teams, resulting in 54 combined foul shot attempts.
Elmira's
Neil Randolph led all EC scorers with 14 points and tied for the team high in rebounds with seven. EC big-man
David Borelli '15 shared the team lead in rebounds as he pulled down seven boards while
Kurt Dutcher '14 and
Nick Cesare '16 combined for 16 points. Six of Dutcher's points came from the charity stripe while six of Cesare's were scored from beyond the arc.
The Soaring Eagles struggled from the floor in the first half, going just 4-for-21fromthe field, totaling 16 first half points. Despite Elmira's slow start from the field, the Soaring Eagles were able to keep things close for most of the first half as they trailed the Red Dragons 14-10 at the 8:10 mark. However, Cortland would outscore Elmira 14-6 for the remainder of the half to claim a 28-16 lead.

Oswego 99, Ithaca 73 (

The Ithaca College men's basketball team (1-2) lost to Oswego (2-1) Tuesday night, falling to the Lakers by a score 99-73 at Max Ziel Gymnasium.
Seniors
Frank Mitchell (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) and
Tom Sweeney (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) each put up 18 points in the defeat. Mitchell narrowly missed his second-straight double-double, collecting nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Junior transfer
Keefe Gitto(Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mountain) contributed eight points off the bench.
The Bombers shot 46 percent from the floor, hitting 26 shots on 56 attempts. Ithaca out-rebounded the Lakers, recording 40 boards compared to Oswego's 38.
Ithaca hung with the host Lakers in the beginning of the contest, trailing by just six points with 16 minutes to go in the opening half. Oswego then scored 13-straight points, taking a 27-8 lead in just over a four minute span.
Oswego continued to score and took a 30-point lead into the half. The Lakers never game up the lead, defeating Ithaca by a score of 99-73.
