Elmira 78, Keyston 55
The Elmira College women's basketball team (2-2) turned an eight point halftime lead into a 78-55 win over non-conference opponent Keystone College (2-1).  Elmira's 33 point margin of victory is their largest since the 2011-12 season.

Fourth-year standout guard Jessica Zoltowski '14 led the Soaring Eagles with a strong double-double effort, recording 28 points and 12 rebounds, both season highs.  Of Zoltwoski's 28 points, 18 came in the second half alone. 

In addition to Zoltowski's double-double performance, Elmira also had two others finish with double digit points, including Meghan Loya '16 who scored 14 and Maria Thannhauser '14 who added another 11.   FULL STORY 


Alfred 78, Canton 50
The Alfred University women's basketball team handed SUNY Canton their third loss of the season on the road, with a 78-50 victory Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Saxons controlled the pace of the game from the start, going on an 11-0 run with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. Alfred never trailed throughout the first half and headed into halftime with a 34-20 lead. Junior guard Harley Cleary paced Alfred with eight points.

AU built off a well-established lead in the second half, never trailing en route to securing the win.  FULL STORY 


Hartwick 65, Emory & Henry College 45
Two tournaments up, two tournaments down for the Hartwick women's basketball team. On Saturday, the Hawks defeated Emory & Henry College (1-1) 63-45 to claim the championship of the William Peace University Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament at the Hermann Student Center in Raleigh, NC. With the victory, the Hawks remain unbeaten and begin the season 4-0 for the first time since the 1994-95 season.

Brittney Dumas was named the Most Valuable Player. She registered game-highs in both points and rebounds on both days of the tournament. Tonight she scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. She would average a double-double of 16.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in the two contests.

Maria Foglia was selected to the All-Tournament Team. She scored 12 points and dished out a game-high seven assists. Kate Purcell chipped in 14 points, including four three-pointers. She also had four assists. FULL STORY 


Houghton 77, Geneva 70 (Box)
The Houghton women's basketball squad took care of business on Saturday by defeating the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College with a score of 77-70.

Regardless of the fact that the Golden Tornadoes took the initiative to score the first basket within the first 15 seconds of the game, the Highlanders stayed neck-in-neck with the Tornadoes. There managed to be 10 incidences in which the score between the two teams was tied. When all was said and done at the end of the 20 minute mark, the Highlanders came out on top with a score of 43-42.

 In the first half, 2 key players led the way for the Highlanders; Kristen Moose (Swain, NY, Canaseraga HS) and Stephany Ellison (Whitesville, NY, Whitesville HS) with 12 points each.  FULL STORY


Ithaca 75, Farmingdale State 60 (Box)
The 13th-ranked Ithaca College women's basketball team (3-0) outlasted Farmingdale (1-3) to earn a spot in the championship game of the Amherst Tournament Sunday. The Bombers outscored the Rams, 21-7 over the final seven minutes to claim the 75-60 victory.

Four Bombers posted double-digit point performances on the night. Shooting 5-for-10 from three-point land, senior Mary Kate Tierney (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) led Ithaca with 19 points and seven rebounds. Classmate Jenn Escobido (Lisbon, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) added seven rebounds to go with 11 points. Junior Francesca Cotrupe (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) and rookie Erin Ferguson (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) each posted 10 points and six rebounds. Senior Kathryn Campbell (Wall, N.J./Wall) led the game with seven assists. She chipped in nine points and pulled down six rebounds.  FULL STORY


St. John Fisher 72, D'Youville 56

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball overcame a poor shooting first half Saturday to cruise to a 72-56 win over host D'Youville College.  After scoring just 21 points in the first half the Cardinals used a well balanced offensive output, including four players scoring in double-digits, to help seal the victory.

With the win Fisher improves to 2-1 overall.

The Cardinals shot just under 29 percent in the first half (8-for-28) and trailed 29-21 at the break. FULL STORY 


Stevens 69, New Paltz 59
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team outscored visiting SUNY New Paltz by 10 points in the second half to come away with a 69-59 victory in Canavan Arena on Saturday afternoon to improve to 3-1 on the season. Four Ducks scored in double figures in the win.

Stevens (3-1) connected on 23 of its 53 shots in the contest for a 43.4 shooting percentage, while New Paltz (0-4) shot just 30.8 percent (16-for-52) from the field. In the second half, the Ducks posted a 44 percent field goal percentage (11-of-25) and held the Hawks to 20.8 percent (5-for-24) which proved to be a difference in the showdown. Utica 60, Sage 59
Utica College's Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) knocked down two free throws with 51 seconds left in the game to give the Pioneers a one point lead and that score held for the remainder of the contest as the Pioneers topped a pesky Sage College team, 60-59, on the hardwood at the Clark Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.  Miceli led all scorers with 18 points, while senior forward Briget Greenwald added a game-high 16 rebounds and chipped in with eight points.  Marissa Kahane (Sayville, NY/Sayville) came off the bench and provided UC with two clutch 3-pointers in the second half to help lift the Pioneers to their second consecutive victory.  Kahane finished the day with 11 points.  FULL STORY
