Bombers Sweep Quad Meet; Ducks Topple TCNJ

ITHACA  Complete Results
The Ithaca College women's swimming and diving team outscored all competitors Saturday afternoon, defeating Hamilton (217-77), Geneseo (164-135) and Hartwick (192-92) in the first quad meet of the season. Ithaca took the top spot in six events during the day.

The Bombers opened with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Kylie Bangs (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), Grace Ayer (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem), Cassie Papaleo (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) and Megan Zart (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) took the top spot with a time of 1:53.06. Ayer also earned a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.31 and the 200-yard medley with a time of 2:12.89.

Megan Buisman (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) finished the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:11.79, earning first place out of 14 entries.

The Bombers swept the diving events, with Heather Markus (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) earning the top spot in both the 1-meter dive and 3-meter dive. Markus finished the 1-meter with a score of 239.30 and the 3-meter dive with a time of 243.95.

Ithaca returns to action Dec. 6 through Dec. 8 when the team hosts the Bomber Invitational at the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion.


STEVENS  Complete Results
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming program – ranked ninth in the nation – rolled to a 147-109 victory over The College New Jersey Saturday in front of a record crowd at the De Baun Aquatic Center.
 
The win is the first dual-meet win of the year for the Ducks who improve to 1-1 overall.
 
Junior Sharon Rooker, junior Brittany Geyer, junior Nicole Miller and sophomore Jennifer Rutledge gave Stevens a lead it would never relinquish when the group teamed for a win and a 1:52.84 in the day's first race – the 200-yard medley relay.
 
Freshman Danielle Caruso and sophomore Elizabeth Heinbach finished first and second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:46.30, 10:52.93), and the Ducks were off and running as Caruso and classmate Claire Hendershot went first and third in the 200-yard freestyle to make it three wins in three events.
 
Sophomore Katlyn Christenson tallied a third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.11), and Geyer and sophomore Elena Piper were first and second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.40, 1:10.14).
 
Heinbach gave Stevens its fifth win of the day in the sixth event with a 2:14.64 in the 200-yard butterfly. She was followed by junior Maria McClure and Rooker in second and third.
 
Junior April Lawson won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.89, and after a break, she gave Stevens its seventh win thanks to a 53.72 in the 100-yard freestyle.
 
In the 200-back, Christenson placed third and senior Megan Lisbon was fourth, with Geyer earning her second individual win with a 2:25.99 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Piper and sophomore Alexandra Borrelli were second and third in the 200-breast.
 
Caruso, Heinbach and Hendershot went one-two-three in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:17.01, 5:21.22 and 5:29.48, and McClure notched her second second-place finish in the 100-fly with a 1:01.76.
 
Had Stevens not swam the final two events in exhibition, Geyer would have earned her third win with a 2:15.08 in the 200-IM, and Miller, Rutledge, Lawson and Caruso would have done the same in the 400-free relay.


UTICA
The Utica College women's swim and dive team dropped their meet, 130-87, to Skidmore College Saturday afternoon at the UC pool. 

On the women's side, Mikey Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada), Corie Brouwer, and Evelyn Kurzac (Mundelein, IL/Mundelein Cons) swept the 100-yard butterfly with times of 1:08.02, 1:09.68, and 1:18.68, respectively. Brouwer was also the top finisher in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:35.81, followed by Vana Cabibbo (Port Chester, NY /Port Chester) (3:10.38). 

Maxwell teamed up with Alice Thai (Pearland, Texas /Glenda Dawson )Cecelia Gulius (Laflin, PA/James M. Coughlin), and Jessica Schumann (Nashua, NH/Nashua South)to capture the 200-yard freestyle relay. Schumann earned a first-place finish of her own after clocking 2:47.99 in the 200-yard breaststroke. 


HARTWICK
The Hartwick women's swimming and diving team participated in a quad meet with host Hamilton, Ithaca, and SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon. The women defeated Hamilton 183-105 and fell to the Bombers 192-102 and the Knights 173-125.

The women were led by Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Academy) who swam to victories in two events. Mathias had first place finishes in the 1000 (10.55.94) and the 500 free (5:18.82).

Clare Nelson (South Hadley, MA/South Hadley) had the other win for the women's team in the 200 breast with a winning time of 2:28.88. Nelson also had a second place finish in the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.99.

The women had a few other strong finishes. Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman) was the runner-up in the 200 IM with a time of 2:17.26. Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL/Glenhard North) came in third in the 200 free (2:01.44). In the three-meter diving event, Lindsay Bowker (Bothell, WA/Inglemoor) was second with a score of 234.40.

Both relay teams had two third place finishes. The 200 medley relay squad of Allison Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg), Nelson, Lindsay Bierwert (Leeds, MA/Northampton), and Kelsey Elliot (Cortland, NY/Homer) posted a time of 1:55.08. The 400 free relay squad of Campbell, Elliot, Mathias, and Rutigliano had a time of 3:47.77.
