Bombers Earn Midweek Win At William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's swimming and diving team defeated William Smith Tuesday evening, beating the Herons by an overall score of 157.5 - 82.5. The Bombers finished first in 9-of-13 events.

Michelle Heidgerken (Bad Soden, Germany/Pembroke Hill School) earned the first top spot for the Bombers, taking first in the  1000-yard freestyle. She finished in a time of 11:31.57, narrowly edging teammate Brenna Dowd (Holbrook,N.Y./Sachem East) who finished in a time of 11:33.39 for a second place finish. 

Heidgerken also helped the Bombers claim the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle relay. She combined with Cassie Papaleo (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford), Lainey Cohen (Ellsworth, Maine/Ellsworth) and Megan Zart (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) to earn a first place finish in a time of 1:47.23.

Ithaca swept both diving events. Emily Warfle (Owego/Owego) scored a 224.05 en route to winning the 1-meter dive, while teammate Nickie Griesemer (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) took the top spot in the 3-meter dive with a score of 238.15.

Grace Ayer (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) earned a first place finish in two events, taking the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.02) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.92).

Other individual first place finishes included Miranda Wingfield (Florence, Mass./Northamton) in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.61), Megan Buisman (Rochester/Penfield) in the 100-yard freestyle (56.97) and Catherine Tompkins (West Chester, N.Y./Rye) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.97).
