Men’s Soccer Places Four on All-East Region Teams
All-East Region Team
Four Empire 8 men's soccer players earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-East Region honors.
Stevens Institute of Technology senior back
Zeke Hemme and sophomore forward
Carson Pryor both were first-team honorees, while junior midfielder
Kevin Calloway was a second-teamer. Houghton junior midfielder
Jared Toth earned third team honors.
Hemme played in and started 20-of-20 games for Stevens scoring a pair of goals and handing out one assist as the Ducks finished the 2013 year 17-2-1. The Kentucky native helped Stevens to another Empire 8 title and was a major player in a Stevens defense that allowed just nine goals against all season long. One of his two scores was a game-winner as the veteran headed home a cross to account for the only goal in the Ducks' victory over nationally-ranked Swarthmore College on October 9 in Hoboken. Hemme helped the Ducks to a .45 goals-against average which is No. 4 nationally.
Pryor was the 2013 Empire 8 Player of the Year and was first-team all-conference along with both Calloway and Hemme. Pryor scored a team- and conference-high 14 goals and notched 31 points to lead the 18th-ranked scoring offense this year. Three of his scores were game-winners with the second-year player finding the back of the net in 12 different games. He tallied three or more points in three games, pocketing multiple markers on October 5 and October 12.
Calloway anchored the Stevens midfield all year playing a key role facilitating and defending for one of the top-ranked teams in the nation. Calloway scored twice and assisted once, helping Stevens rank nationally in most offensive and defensive categories. The Sewell, N.J. native earned all-conference honors for a second time after helping the Ducks allow just one goal against E8 foes all season long while scoring 18 of their own.
Toth solidified the midfield, frustrating opponents with his tenacious defensive play. He started all 20 games as the Highlanders posted a 15-4-1 record, including an 8-0 mark at home and a 6-1 mark against E8 foes. Toth earned all-conference honors as Houghton allowed just 12 goals against, while netting 39 of their own.
