ECAC Release

Elmira senior Taryn Rumsey, Nazareth junior Maria Allocco and Stevens Institute of Technology senior Samantha Gates and junior Kirsten Salmins have been named to the ECAC Division III Metro-Upstate Second Team.

Rumsey capped off a phenomenal four-year career with an Empire 8 leading 546 kills, the most during her time with the Soaring Eagles.  She boasts the nation's seventh highest point per set average (5.01) and the nation's 10th highest kill per set average (4.37).  Career-wise, Rumsey will go down in Elmira College history as one of the greats as she ranks second in career aces (244), fourth in career kills (1,632), and fifth in career digs (1,329).

Allocco led Nazareth to its third straight Empire 8 Conference title in 2013 as she was chosen MVP of the conference tournament for the third year in a row. She totaled 316 kills and now has 923 for her career. She also had 51 service aces and a team-high 81 blocks. Her .387 hitting percentage (316-72-631) ranks among the top 10 nationally in Division III.

Gates, the Empire 8 Player of the Year, dished out 1,168 assists in 117 sets played this season and established the school's all-time record for assists with 3,534. She also holds the program mark with assists in a match at 62 which she set last season. Gates appears three times on the single-season assists list and now holds the third and fourth slots.

Salmins posted 670 digs through 34 matches and 118 sets played, which averages out to 5.68 per set and the 15th best mark in the nation. She recorded the school's single-match digs record against Houghton College on October 12 with 43 in a four-set affair.
