Miller and Seney Named Capital One Academic All-Americans

St. John Fisher senior running back Cody Miller and Hartwick senior defensive end Joe Seney have been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Second Team for their outstanding performances on the field and in the classroom this season.

Earlier this season, they were selected to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, qualifying them for their selection as an Academic All-American. They are two of 24 players named to the second team and two of 48 overall.
 
Miller is a childhood and special education major with an impressive 3.73 GPA. A three-year starter at running back, he leads the Cardinals and the Empire 8 Conference with 1,066 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns this season, averaging 88.8 yards per game.
 
Miller also ranks in the top 10 in numerous categories within Fisher's record books. Currently, in the single-season category, he ranks seventh in rushing yards (1,066) and fourth in touchdowns (16). For his career, he currently ranks third in rushing yards (3,264) and fourth in touchdowns (33). He is only the fourth running back in Fisher history to rush for over 3,000 yards in a career.
 
Fisher (10-2) will return to action on Saturday in the NCAA Division III Championship Quarterfinals when it faces the No. 3 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders in Belton, TX. Kickoff set for 1 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). The Cardinals will look to advance to the championship semifinals for the second time in school history, the first time since 2006.

Seney carries a 3.60 cumulative grade-point average and is a Computer Science and Mathematics double major at Hartwick. He has been inducted into the National Mathematics Honor Society, Kappa Mu Epsilon, and has been awarded the Andrew B. Saxon Fellowship. Seney was also a Phillip S. Wilder, Jr. Award for academic distinction. In addition, he interned with the Air Force Research Lab in Rome, NY.

Seney finished the 2013 season with 47 tackles (32 solo, 15 assists), 7.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one quarterback hurry. He led the Hawks in forced fumbles and was second in sacks while tying for third in the conference in sacks and leading in forced fumbles. Nationally, Seney is ninth in forced fumbles.
