Radford 80, Houghton 51
Coming of a 23-day break since their last contest, the Houghton men's basketball was a little bit rusty when they returned to the court Tuesday against Radford University. It didn't help that Radford was an NCAA Division I opponent who entered the game with an 8-4 record.

Radford used their superior size, strength and athleticism to grab an 80-51 over the Highlanders.

Radford had to shake off  a bit of their own rust as they game started, but was able to gain an early advantage and led 21-8 with 12 minutes gone in the opening half. That lead grew to 19 over the next four minutes, but the Highlanders maintained their poise. Johnathan Stowe (Toronto, ON, Canada, Don Mills Collegiate Institute) converted two free throws, Brandon Camacho (Dundee, NY, Dundee High School) dropped in two layups and Matthew Ball  (Binghamton, NY, Chenango Valley) hit a two and a three to pull Houghton to 36-24 in the last seconds of the half. Radford went 1-for-2 from the line with two seconds left to take a 37-24 lead into the break.

Radford shot 44 percent from the field in the first half and Houghton converted on 36 percent of its shots.

The closely contested first half and a halftime pep talk from their coach woke up the hosts, who opened the second 20 minutes on a 15-2 run, culiminating in back-to-back dunks. Houghton wouldn't fold. Cullen Overholt (Ballston Spa, NY, Loudonville Christian) hit two from the charity stripe and Andrew Makori (Mukilteo, WA, Shoreline Community College) hit consecutive threes to trim the margin to 18.

Radford scored 11 straight points to regain control midway through the half, and Houghton would get no closer than 25 down the stretch. Radford's largest lead was 31 points.

Ball led the Highlanders with 13 points, including a 3-of-5 showing from long range. Camacho chipped in with 11 points, while Makori and Jordan Christensen (Cashmere, WA, Cashmere) added eight points each. Stowe finished with four points and a team-high six rebounds off the bench.
