Regan, Hathaway and Wood Earn Top E8 2013 Season Awards
The Empire 8 Conference has honored Stevens Institute of Technology sophomore Amy Regan yet again with Runner of the Year honors. Hartwick College freshman Victoria Hathaway was tabbed the Rookie of the Year and Stevens Head Coach Justin Wood was selected the E8 Women’s Coach of the Year.
Regan concluded the 2013 season by competing in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship for the second consecutive season. She placed sixth overall on the 6K course with a time of 21:29.4 to become the first All-American in Steven’s cross country history. Regan qualified for the national meet thanks to her runner-up finish at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships in a school record time of 21:15.1. For the season, Regan won five of the eight meets that she raced, setting two meet records (Vassar and Connecticut College) and broke her own school record for the 6K on three different occasions. She also set a new Empire 8 conference record at Saratoga Springs as she won her second E8 individual title (17:29).
Hathaway was the top runner for Hartwick in six races on the year, including the individual title at the Cross Country Only Championship meet and a runner up finish at the Oneonta Early Bird invite. She was the top freshman runner at the Empire 8 championships with a tenth place finish (18:39.1) over the 3.04 mile course to earn second team all-conference honors. Hathaway placed 84
th out of 269 runners at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals with a time of 23:28.2.
In his second season at the helm, Justin Wood has been named the Empire 8 Women’s Cross Country coach of the year. Stevens finished as the runner-up at the E8 Championship meet for its highest team finish ever in the conference meet as two student-athletes earned all-conference honors. The Ducks placed 15
th at the NCAA Atlantic Regional meet and was represented at the NCAA Championship for the second straight year.
In addition, one member of each team was named that institution’s representative on the 2013 Women’s Cross Country Sportswoman of the Year Team. Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
The first and second team all-conference teams were announced following the conclusion of the championship.
