Day One Recap of Ithaca Invitational
Four men's swimming and diving teams finished the first day of the Bomber Invitational at Ithaca College's Aquatics Pavilion on Friday evening. Alfred, Hartwick, Ithaca and Nazareth are four of 12 teams competing in a field that includes Cornell, which is a Division I member, and Shippensburg and Mansfield, which are Division II members.

On the men's side, junior
Clement Towner (Lansing, N.Y./Lansing) opened with a time of 4:55.05 in the individual 500-yard freestyle for a 16th place finish. In the 200-yard individual medley, junior
Lucas Zelehowsky (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) earned a sixth place finish, completing the race in a time of 1:57.50.
Senior Zach Kundel finished third in a field of 92 in the 50-yard freestyle, completing the race in a time of 21.18. Junior
Peter Knight (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) and sophomore
Addison Hebert (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) rounded out the top-five in the 50 free, tying for fifth with a time of 21.40.
Kundel and Zelehowsky joined
Nick Warner (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) and
Taylor Van Cott(Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) on the 4x50-yard medley relay team, helping the Bombers earn a third place finish in the field of 28 teams with a time of 1:36.28.
Junior
Matt Morrison (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) capped a successful day for the Bombers with a second place finish in the 3-meter dive. Morrison finished with a score of 485.70.
Hartwick Recap
There was one overall individual winner for the men which belonged to
Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley). Ranson finished the 50 free with a winning time of 21.05 and edged out Cornell's Karol Mlynarski who posted a time of 21.14.
Luke Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Acad.) placed fifth in the 500 free with a time of 4:46.10. Teammate
Matt Plunkett (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Cooper City) was seventh (4:48.59) and
Chris Farrell (Charlotte, NC/Rocky River) had a ninth place finish (4:51.53).
Luis Santiesteban (Key Largo, FL) came in 14
th in the 200 IM (2:00.09).
The 200 medley relay team of
Alexander Gibson (San Leandro, CA/Castro Valley High),
Jeremy Torres (Poulsbo, WA/Central Kitsap),
Ben Detar (Charleston, SC/Hanahan), and Ranson posted a time of 1:37.93 for fourth place.
Nazareth Recap
In the men's meet, the Golden Flyers stood in sixth-place with 129 team points following Friday's swimming events. Cornell was first with 548 points. Ithaca and Geneseo were second and third with 250.5 points and 218. 5 points, respectively.
Sophomore
Dan Burke tallied 23 points with a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard IM. Burke's time of 1:57.57 was about six seconds faster than his seed time of 2:03.55. Senior
Tim Rappold was the next finisher in eighth-place with a time of 1:58.15 to earn 22 points. Rappold's time was also about seven seconds quicker than his seed time.

Matt Leverich, finished seventh with a time of 1:39.01 to record 46 additional points.
Sophomore
Jeff Green added 22 points to Nazareth's total with an eighth-place finish in the men's three-meter diving event. Green accumulated 366.2 points in the event.
Freshman
Matt Leverich swam about nine seconds faster than his seed time in the 500-yard freestyle to place 11th with a time of 4:52.34. Leverich's time earned 16 points for the Golden Flyers' men' team. Senior
Justin Sawran also placed 26th in the event with a time of 4:59.33.
Alfred Recap
Three Alfred University swimmers placing in the top 18 in the 50-yard freestyle highlighted the AU men's swimming and diving team's first day of competition at the Ithaca College Invitational, being held today, Saturday and Sunday.
Senior
Peter Sowinski took ninth in the 50 free in 21.53 seconds. Junior David Coombes was 16
th (22.17) and junior
David Luke was 18
th (22.20).
Also scoring points for the Saxons on Friday was junior Zach Toth, 20
th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.56). The team of sophomore Jacob Olson and seniors
Terry Soto and
Jake Giglio and Sowinski were 11
th in the 200 medley relay.
