Stevens 58, Utica 36
Senior forward Maggie Kowalska was one block away from a triple-double and the Stevens Institute of Technology defense held visiting Utica College to nine total field goals en route to a 58-36 Empire 8 win over the Pioneers Friday night in the Canavan Arena.
 
With the win, the Ducks even their overall record to 10-10 and move to 5-5 in the conference. Utica drops to 10-11 and 6-5 in the Empire 8.
 
Kowalska finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and nine blocks. She also had two steals and four assists. The nine blocks broke the individual single-game record and Stevens' 13 rejections as a team did the same thing. The senior also now has 51 for the season which is the single-season mark as well.


Elmira 56, St. John Fisher 52
The Elmira College Women’s Basketball team used a strong finish to the first half to carry momentum into the second stanza and upend visiting St. John Fisher College, 56-52, Friday evening. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 7-13 overall and 2-8 in Empire 8 play, while the loss drops the Cardinals to 10-11 and 6-5.

Jessica Zoltowski paced Elmira with 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists while shooting 7-for-12 from the field. Maria Thannhauser added nine points, while Liz Forrest contributed seven points and seven rebounds. Portia Velasco was the only scorer in double digits for Fisher finishing with 14 points.


Ithaca 55, Nazareth 45
The Ithaca College women's basketball team (17-2, 9-1 Empire 8) defeated host Nazareth (7-14, 4-6 Empire 8), 55-45, on Friday night.

The first half featured nine lead changes. Ithaca held a six-point gap at the five-minute mark, but Nazareth closed out the half with a 10-2 run for a two-point edge at halftime. Ithaca answered in the second, outscoring the Golden Flyers, 35-23, en route to its fourth consecutive victory. The Bombers secured the lead for good at 15:15 of the second and pieced together a 20-10 streak, taking 13 minutes off the clock.


Alfred 61, Houghton 59
The Alfred University women’s basketball team topped a visiting Houghton College, Friday evening, 61-59.

The contest stayed close throughout its entirety as AU outscored Houghton 28-24 the first half, and Houghton outscored Alfred in the second half, 35-33.  The game was decided with a game winning buzzer-beater by sophomore guard Harley Cleary as time expired.

For the game, the Lady Saxons held an advantage over Houghton, outshooting them from the field 33 to 31 percent, from beyond the arc 36 to 29 percent, and 67 to 64 percent from the free throw line.
