Elmira junior Jessica Zoltowski and St. John Fisher freshman Mary Kate Cusack have been named the Empire 8 Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for their performance during the week of Feb. 4-10.

Zoltowski averaged an impressive 17.7 points and 9.0 rebounds for Elmira in three games this week as she became the fourth player in school history to eclipse the 1,000 point plateau. Zoltowski, just the second junior in EC history to accomplish the feat, finished with 20 points and a game-high 13 rebounds as Elmira picked up an important, 61-58, conference win over Alfred.

Friday against Stevens she finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four steals. The Erie, PA native capped off her week with a 17 point-eight rebound and three-assist effort against Hartwick. Zoltowski now has 1,031 career points in the Purple and Gold.

Elmira returns to action Friday when it travels to take on Nazareth College beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Soaring Eagles return home Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. tilt with Utica College.

Cusack scored a career-high 25 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field as Fisher defeated Houghton 80-70 on the road Tuesday night. The guard set a career high for 3-pointers made in a contest, draining six shots from beyond the arc, including 4-of-5 attempts in the final half. Cusack also added four rebounds, two steals and two assists.

The St. John Fisher College will travel up East Avenue Tuesday night to take on host Nazareth College. The Cardinals are currently in fourth place in the Empire 8 standings, holding onto the final spot for the Empire 8 Championship, with a slight lead over Stevens (6-6) and Nazareth (5-6).
