Norsen and Ford named Academic All-American

Jason Norsen (Hamburg, NY/Fontier) and Nazareth junior forward
Brad Ford (Victor, NY/Victor) and have been selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Norsen was a first-team selection, while Ford garnered second-team honors and were two of 15 players honored in Division III.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or better. Norsen and Ford were named to the All-District team earlier this month.
An accounting major with a 3.91 G.P.A., Norsen was a Capital One Academic All-America® third team pick last year. A native of Hamburg, N.Y., Norsen leads the Cardinals in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. While leading the Cardinals to a 17-8 record, he is averaging 14.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots per game. A two-time All-Empire 8 pick, Norsen ranks third in Division III in blocks per game.
Norsen and the Cardinals earned the third seed in the Empire 8 Tournament and will face No. 2 Ithaca at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22 at Stevens in Hoboken, NJ.
Nazareth completed its 2012-13 season over the weekend with a 15-10 overall record. Ford finished as the Golden Flyers' leading rebounder at 10 per game and the second leading scorer at 16.2 points per game .He also led the team in three-point baskets (46) and steals (27) and posted 12 double-doubles (points-rebounds). With 24 points in Saturday's game at Ithaca, Ford became the 20th Nazareth player to surpass 1,000 points in careeer scoring. He'll enter the 2013-14 season withe 1,011 points.
In the classroom, Ford holds a grade-point average of 3.80 as a Business Administration major. He is a member of the Empire 8 Conference President's List and last season was chosen as an honorable mention E8 all-star.
