The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team is ranked third in the East Region in the third edition of Regional Rankings released by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The University Rochester tops the East with a 20-3 in-region record (21-3 overall), while SUNY Cortland is second with a 21-3 in-region mark (21-4 overall). Stevens is 19-4 in region and 21-4 overall.

Behind the Ducks is Plattsburgh State (18-6 in-region, 18-7 overall), Hobart College (18-6 in-region, 18-7 overall) and Oswego State (18-7 in-region, 18-7 overall).

For the first time since joining the Empire 8 for the 2007-08 season, the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team is hosting the conference tournament in the Canavan Arena as the top seed. The 21-4 Ducks will host Utica College in the semifinals Friday at 6 p.m. and a variety of giveaways and promotions are scheduled prior to and during the game.

The top-seeded Ducks defeated fourth-seeded Utica in both prior meetings this year but Utica comes in as one of the hottest teams in the conference, winning seven of its last eight games and four-straight Empire 8 contests to storm into the tournament.

Stevens is 10-0 at home this season and has its eyes on a berth in the conference title game slated for 3 p.m. Saturday in Canavan. The winner of the Stevens-Utica game will take on the winner of the second-seeded Ithaca College and third-seeded St. John Fisher College game set to begin at 8 p.m. Friday.
