2012-13 All-Conference Teams Announced

ROCHESTER, NY – The Empire 8 Athletic Conference has announced 2012-13 Women's Basketball All-Conference teams as voted on by the conference coaches. In addition, the Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year have been selected.

The Player of the Year award goes to Hartwick’s Maria Foglia. Foglia, a junior guard, is averaging 13.7 points per contest and her three-point field goal percentage (37.7) ranks second in the conference.  She averages 4.9 rebounds and has accumulated 64 assists and 39 steals for the Hawks in her 25 starts. Foglia has reached double-figures in points 17 times this season, led the team in scoring on eight different occasions, and became the 13th player in Hartwick history to score 1,000 points. Hartwick has earned the Player of the Year award two previous times when Tiffany Hurley took the honor in 2001 and 2002.

Hartwick freshman Brittney Dumas was named the Rookie of the Year. She has appeared in all 25 games to date, making 21 starts.  Dumas is averaging 14.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. She is shooting 53.4 percent from the field, which ranks 22nd in Division III, and 71.4 percent from the free throw line. She finished in double digits 19 times during the regular season, led Hartwick in scoring in nine games and was named the Rookie of the Week four times. Dumas is Hartwick’s second E8 Rookie of the Year recipient, joining previous winner Lindsay Wilson (2004).

This marks the first time in Empire 8 women’s basketball history that the Player and Rookie of the Year have represented the same team.

Ithaca head coach Dan Raymond has been named the Coach of the Year for the seventh time in his career. In his 13th season guiding the Bombers, his team posted an 13-1 mark in conference play and earned the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament for the fifth consecutive year and seventh time overall. The Bomber’s are off to their best start in school history with a current 23-2 record; one win shy of tying the single-season school record of 24 wins set in 2011-12.

One member of each team was named that institution’s representative on the 2012-13 Women’s Basketball Sportsman of the Year Team.  Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
