Fackler Shatters Records; Bomber Women's Swim & Dive Leads After Day 1

ITHACA, N.Y. (February 20, 2013) – The Ithaca College women's swimming & diving team in first place after the first of four days of competition at the Empire 8 Championships. The Bombers totaled 215 points, while Stevens is in second place with 184 points and Hartwick is in third (148).
Diver Korie Fackler highlighted the opening day of the meet with a record-setting performance on the 3-meter diving board. Fackler scored 494.50 in the championship dive format, which was a record in the championship meet, and in the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion. Teammate Kloe Boeckel placed second overall with a score of 444.00 and Hartwick junior Lindsay Bowker was third in the three-meter diving competition with a score of 440.85.
Stevens freshman Elizabeth Heinbach notched a 5:04.94 in rolling to the 500-free title. Hartwick sophomore Kaitlyn Campbell was second (5:07.05), and teammate Gwen Mathias was third (5:10.29).
Bomber senior Carly Jones won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.63, which met the NCAA B qualifying standard and led an impressive group of swimmers in that event. Stevens senior Marissa Douglass and her B-cut time of 2:06.90 was good for second and Ithaca junior Elizabeth Gawrys placed third with a time of 2:07.56, also an NCAA B cut.
Hartwick sophomore Jade Woodend won the Empire 8 title in the 50 free in an NCAA “B” cut time of 23.61. Her time broke the previous school record of 24.05 which was set by her sister last year and she also became the first Hawk swimmer to win the event since 2004. Stevens Junior Louise Moores and freshman Jenn Rutledge finished second and third in the 50-free final (23.83, 23.91) with B-cut times.
The Ducks saved the best for last as Moores, Brittany Geyer, Douglas and Rutledge set an Empire 8 Championship record with an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:44.96 in the 200-yard medley relay to close the day. The Bomber 200-yard medley relay placed second in a time of 1:46.99, which met the NCAA B standard.

The morning session will start at 10 a.m., while the finals will be held in the evening beginning at 6pm.
