Two MXC Teams and Three Individuals Earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the 2012 Cross Country All-Academic Awards. Two Empire 8 men’s cross country teams and three individuals have been recognized for their academic achievement.
 
Those earning USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors from the E8 included Ithaca (3.576) and Stevens Institute of Technology (3.467).
 
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.10 team cumulative grade point average through the 2012 fall semester.
 
A total of 141 Division III men’s programs from 34 conferences received the USTFCCCA’s All-Academic Team honors this year.
 
In addition, Ithaca runners Nathan Bickell, David Geary and Sawyer Hitchcock earned 2012 USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Cross Country status.
 
The total of 162 student-athletes representing 85 institutions composed the group. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships.
 
Bickell led the way with a 15th place finish of 25:57.40 at the regional meet. Hitchcock placed 25th in 26:05.40 and Geary followed in 30th with a time of 26:15.00.
