Ithaca Claims Fifth Straight NYSCTC Indoor Title

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women’s track & field team powered to its fifth consecutive New York State Collegiate Track Conference Indoor Championship title Saturday at Glazer Arena. The Bombers, who won their 13th title since 1986, scored 243 points over the course of 21 events to claim top honors and outscore the second-place team by 52 points.

Ithaca had 29 individual and two relay All-NYSCTC finishes on day two of competition. The Bombers met 15 ECAC standards and broke three facility records Saturday.

Sophomore Harmony Graves was named NYSCTC Women’s Track Athlete of the Meet and head coach Jennifer Potter and her staff received NYSCTC Women’s Coaching Staff of the Meet nods.

Graves won the 200 dash with a facility record of 26.01, also an ECAC qualifier. Freshman Eliza Dewart followed in sixth with a time of 26.91.

A trio earned All-NYSCTC finishes in the 60 dash. Graves raced to a first-place, ECAC-qualifying finish of 7.95. Freshman Sarah Werner placed fifth and sophomore Rachel Friedman eighth with times of 8.15 and 8.27.

Senior Jenn Randall shattered the Glazer Arena facility record in the mile run to win the event in an ECAC-qualifying time of 5:01.81. Classmate Carly Graham and freshman Rachelle Sartori also placed. Graham finished fourth in 5:19.78 and Sartori placed sixth in 5:22.37.

The Bombers placed three in the 500 run. Randall paced the trio with a runner-up finish of 1:17.36 that met the ECAC qualifier. Sophomore Brittany Greene ran sixth in 1:22.17 and senior Annmarie Charno followed in seventh with a 1:22.24 finish.

Dewart won the 400 dash crossing the finish line in an ECAC-qualifying 1:00.36. Junior Martyann Chromik earned All-NYSCTC honors with a fourth-placed finish of 1:01.05.

Senior Tammia Hubbard won the 60-meter hurdles in an ECAC-qualifying time of 9.19. Sophomore Christine Benway ran fourth in 9.54 and junior Alyssa Wu finished eighth with a time of 10.10.

Sophomore Emily Smith won the 1,000 run with time of 3:03.72 and Sartori placed seventh in 3:08.98. Both met the ECAC qualifier.

Ithaca’s 4x800 of senior Rachel Spirito, sophomore Ruby Benn, freshman Michaela Cioffredi and Charno teamed together to win the relay in 9:50.76 to meet the ECAC qualifier and set a facility record.

Spirito was the runner-up in the 800 run. She hit the ECAC standard with a time of 2:20.45. Cioffredi finished fourth in 2:22.85 and Benn placed sixth with a time of 2:23.87.

Ithaca’s 4x400 relay of sophomores Kristen Swanson and Alex Lewis, Greene and senior Ebonie Howard placed fourth with a time of 4:10.85.

Sophomore Alexa Rick hit the ECAC qualifier in the 3,000 run. She placed fourth in 10:34.97. Freshman Anna Fay finished eighth in 10:46.64.

Senior Amanda Rissmeyer won the high jump. She cleared 1.66 meters on her first attempt to qualify for the ECAC Championships.

Sophomore Emilia Scheemaker met the ECAC standard with a second-place finish of 11.55 meters in the triple jump. Benway placed eighth in the event with a mark of 10.69 meters.

Three Bombers recorded All-NYSCTC throws in the weight. Sophomore Kristina Stockburger placed third, senior Colleen Garman seventh and junior Elaine Abdulky eighth. Stockburger had a heave of 14.74 meters, Garman had a toss of 14.06 meters and Abdulky threw 14.03 meters. Stockburger and Garman hit the ECAC standard. 

The Bombers return to action on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2 at the ECAC Indoor T&F Championships at the Armory.
