Five Teams and Two Individuals Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the 2012 Cross Country All-Academic Awards. Five Empire 8 women’s cross country teams and two individuals have been recognized for their academic achievement.
Those earning
USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors from the E8 included: Ithaca (3.49), Stevens Institute of Technology (3.417), St. John Fisher College (3.336), Nazareth College (3.276) and Utica College (3.24).
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.10 team cumulative grade point average through the 2012 fall semester.
A total of 197 Division III women’s programs from 39 conferences received the USTFCCCA’s All-Academic Team honors this year.
In addition, Ithaca sophomore Alexa Rick and Stevens freshman Amy Regan earned 2012
USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Cross Country status.
The total of 201 student-athletes representing 104 institutions composed the group. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships.
Regan became the first Stevens women's cross country runner to receive all-region recognition after a ninth place finish at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals. On the 6K course, Regan clocked a school record and personal best time of 22:19.7. At the national meet she placed 40th overall out of 277 total competitors and she was the sixth top freshman at the meet.
Rick earned all-region honors with a 24th-place finish out of 277 runners. She crossed the finish line in 22:41.70 to lead Ithaca to a fifth-place finish as a team. Rick led the Bombers with a 141st-place finish at the NCAA Championships. She clocked a time of 23:00.20.
