Utica has Hot Shooting Night; Elmira Cruises to a Victory; Fisher Holds off Houghton

Utica 90, Hartwick 77 
The Utica College men’s basketball team shot 75% from the floor in the first half, and made 8-of-10 3-pointers, to take an insurmountable 56-27 halftime lead over visiting Hartwick College Tuesday night.  The Pioneers hung on for the win in the second half and closed out the regular season sweep of the Hawks after a 90-77 victory on the hardwood at the Clark Athletic Center. 

Junior Connor Maisch made his first five 3-pointers, all in the first half, on his way to breaking the school-record for 3-pointers in a single season.  Maisch finished the night with 17 points and he now has 73 3-pointers this season.

Elmira 73, Alfred 50
The Elmira College Men's Basketball team controlled the game throughout as it outplayed visiting Alfred University cruising to a 73-50 victory Tuesday evening in Speidel Gymnasium. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 6-15 overall and 3-7 in Empire 8 play, while the loss drops the Saxons to 6-15 and 2-9.

Elmira got out to a quick 8-0 lead to start the game and held a 40-22 advantage at the intermission. 

The Saxons scored first out of halftime, but would get no closer than 16 points the remainder of the game. Meanwhile, Elmira held a comfortable margin throughout with its lead ballooning to as many as 32 points with 2:29 remaining in the contest..

St. John Fisher 75, Houghton 62
The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team improved to 14-8 overall on Thursday night with a 75-62 win over host Houghton College. 
 
The Cardinals withstood several runs by the Highlanders in the second half, including a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 42-36 with 14:04 left to play. Houghton closed the margin to the smallest point at 62-57 with 3:06 remaining, but Thad Wier hit a 3-pointer in the corner to gain the momentum back for good.
