Fisher Baseball Prevails In Season Opener

The St. John Fisher College baseball program jumped out to a 6-1 lead and held on for an 8-7 win over SUNY Purchase on Sunday in the season opener for both teams at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ.

Fisher never trailed in the game.  The Cardinals took the lead in the bottom of the first, as Chris Roeder tripled and scored on a groundout by Ben Bostick.   Fisher tacked on two more runs in the second inning.  After Nick Flemister singled, Shane Barley hit a two-run homer to put the Caridnals up 3-0.

Fisher added three more runs in the third.  Roeder, Barley and Brad Rush each doubled in the inning with Roeder, Rush and Sean Osterman scoring a run.

Starting pitcher Justin D'Amato pitched 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win.  The juniors needs just one more to tie the College's all-time record of 22.  Tom Dybas recorded the save.

Fisher will return to action on March 2nd and will face Penn-State Altoona.
