In the 13th inning after getting two outs, Fisher allowed a single. Saint Vincent then hit a ball into right centerfield and Sean Osterman and Johnny Beck both made a run at the ball and collided as the ball fell just out of reach, allowing the runner from first to score the go ahead run.

Beck then flied out before Bostick singled to short, advancing Roeder to third. Ben Webb came to the plate next, getting a solid piece and driving the ball into the outfield but right to the centerfielder to end the game.

Fisher added the go ahead run in the third when Nick Flemister drove in Matt Creenan with a double after Creenan reached by getting plunked. The Cardinals then added another run in the fifth to make it a 7-5 lead, this time from a Flemister sacrifice fly to score Sean Osterman, who also reached base by getting beaned.

Saint Vincent faced that deficit until the ninth inning, when it rallied with one out, singling twice , advancing on a wild pitch and then scoring on a sacrifice fly and a RBI single to tie the game at 7-7 to push the contest to extras.
