BOX SCORE

The St. John Fisher College baseball team went to extra innings for the second-straight day and for the third time in five games at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Winter Haven, FL to earn a 5-3 victory over Coe College. With the win the Cardinals push their record to 4-2 and have an off day tomorrow before returning to action at 1 p.m. on Friday for a doubleheader against Penn State Abington.

In the top of the 12th inning, Chris Roeder led off with a single before Brad Rush reached base on an error by the second baseman. Mike Fahy then tried sacrifice bunting but it resulted in an infield hit as Fahy beat the throw down the line. With the bases chucked, Eric Luisi hit into a fielder’s choice, but Roeder beat the throw to the plate, earning Luisi a RBI and Fisher the go ahead and eventual game-winning score.

Ben Bostick came to the plate and put a sacrifice fly into centerfield, allowing Rush to score an insurance run.

Adam Pettinella was the story of the day for the Cardinals, as the senior allowed just six hits and two runs in eight innings of work. The left-handed pitcher threw just 80 pitches in the eight innings on the rubber, throwing 58 of those pitches for strikes.

Aaron Benton came in to relieve Pettinella in the ninth and held the Kohawks to just one hit and no runs to push the game to extras.

Roeder scored from third in the 10th on a groundout to the pitcher by Shane Barley to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead. Jordan Doroshenko came in for the save in the 10th but with two outs and an 0-2 count, Coe drove in a runner from second to knot the score and continue play.

Doroshenko settled in, however, throwing three innings of four hit ball, allowing the one run and earning the victory.

At the plate, Fahy led the way with a 4-for-6 outing while Tim Coykendall, Mike Roman, Johnny Beck and Roeder all finished with two hits. Beck, Bostick, Luisi, Barley and Roeder all finished with a RBI.
