Kempney and Brown Claim E8 Weekly Honors
Houghton senior Tyler Kempney and Nazareth freshman Scott Brown have been named the Empire 8 Conference Men's Lacrosse Player and Goalie of the Week for the week ending March 10.
Kempney scored 13 goals during Houghton’s two-game weekend road-trip as the Highlanders went 1-1, picking up the program's first-ever win. Kempney scored seven goals, including four in the first quarter on Friday night in a 21-12 loss to Baldwin-Wallace. He scooped up 13 groundballs and won 11-of-22 face-offs.
On Saturday, Kempney finished with six goals, two assists and seven ground balls. The senior scored three straight goals in the fourth quarter to erase a two-goal deficit and lead the Highlanders to a 12-11 victory over Hiram.
Brown helped the Golden Flyers secure a pair of non-conference victories last week as he totaled 22 saves in neutral-site wins over Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
Against Clarkson last Wednesday at Onondaga Community College, Brown had 11 of his career-best 15 saves in the second half to preserve a 10-7 Nazareth victory. He added seven more saves in a 12-9 victory Sunday over 19th-ranked St. Lawrence at Cornell University.
Brown has a 3-1 record in four starts this season with a 9.49 goals-against average and a .529 save percentage.
