PERRY, N.Y. (March 12, 2013) – The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) released its weekly top 20 poll and the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s team jumped from No.6 to No. 4. Stevens takes its No. 4 ranking down to Virginia Beach, Va. on Wednesday to play the nation’s top team in SUNY Cortland at 6 p.m.

The Ducks lifted their record to 5-0 this season with an 11-10 overtime win over Muhlenberg College on March 6. Stevens led the game at halftime, 8-0, but Muhlenberg fought back in the fourth quarter and scored three goals in the final 59 seconds to force the extra period.

Stevens jumps up two spots in this week’s poll due to losses by now eighth-ranked Lynchburg College and No. 11 Tufts University. Last week, Lynchburg was ranked third in the country, while Tufts was No. 5.

Only five teams in the country, including the Ducks, own a record better than 3-0 in this week’s poll:  No. 1 Cortland (3-0), No. 2 Stevenson University (5-0), third-ranked Dickinson College (5-0) and No. 6 Washington College (5-0).

In last year’s second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship, Stevens fell to the Red Dragons, 10-9. Cortland would advance all the way to the National Title game where it fell to Salisbury University, 14-10. After squeaking out the one-goal victory over the Ducks, Cortland topped Union College. 9-4, and Tufts, 12-10, for a spot in the championship matchup.
