Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 5 Bowdoin to Open Tough Spring Break Trip in California

POMONA, Calif. (March 10, 2013)
 – Despite wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s tennis team fell to fifth-ranked Bowdoin College Sunday afternoon in Pomona, Calif.
 
The loss drops the Ducks to 1-3 on the year with all three losses coming at the hands of nationally-ranked foes. Bowdoin improves to 1-0.
 
The Ducks dropped all three doubles points before getting on the board at No. 1 singles when senior captain Chris Rosensteel (East Windsor, N.J.) knocked off sophomore Noah Bragg (Brookline, Mass.) 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Matthew Heinrich (Hendersonville, Tenn.) defeated senior Casey Grindon (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) 6-7 (4), 6-1, 12-10 in a thrilling match at No. 2 singles.
 
At third singles, junior Samuel King (Rye Brook, N.Y.) upended freshman Ben Foran (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) 7-6 (5), 6-2, while senior Shota Tasaki (Greenwich, Conn.) lost to junior Chris Lord (Beverly Hills, Calif.) 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth flight. At five and six the Ducks were shut out to complete the day’s singles action.
 
The Polar Bears were able to sweep the doubles points with tight battles in the top-two slots. At No. 1, Heinrich and Rosensteel fell 9-7 to sophomores Doug Caplan (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Kyle Wolstencroft (Greenwich, Conn.), and at No. 2 Foran and Tasaki dropped a 9-8 decision to King and Bragg.
 
Stevens will return action when they battle the No. 1 team in the nation, Kenyon College, Monday at 7:30 p.m. (PST).
