Men’s Tennis Earns 6-3 Win Over Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. (February 27, 2013)
 – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s tennis team earned a nice 6-3 win over Haverford College at the Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Ducks, ranked 16th in the Northeast Region, defeated Haverford which is ranked No. 8 in the Atlantic South, avenging an 8-1 loss from the 2011-12 season.
 
After sweeping the doubles points, Stevens earned three singles wins for the victory – with all three coming from members of the 15th-ranked recruiting class in the nation in Matthew Heinrich (Hendersonville, Tenn.), Ben Foran (Whitefish Bay, Was.) and Tyler Tisdale (Grapevine, Texas).
 
Senior captain Chris Rosensteel (East Windsor, N.J.) and Heinrich tallied an 8-6 win over senior Kevin Caulfield (Honolulu, Hawaii) and senior Danny Himelstein (Media, Pa.) in No.1  singles, while Foran and senior Shota Tasaki (Greenwich, Conn.) followed with a tough 9-7 win over senior Matthew Cebul (Wooster, Ohio) and junior Matt Romei (Chatham, N.J.). Tisdale and sophomore Nicholas Rosasco (Alpine, N.J.) earned a third doubles win with an 8-6 decision over freshman Harrison Elbert (Nashville, Tenn.) and sophomore Sloane Millman (Woodmere, N.Y.).
 
In singles action, Foran clinched the all-important fifth point with a 6-0, 6-4 win over junior Andy Dougherty (Dover, Mass.) in fourth singles, while Heinrich pocketed a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Luis Acaba (San Juan, Puerto Rico) at No. 2 singles. Tisdale also earned a singles win with a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) score over freshman Zack Mason (Atlanta, Ga.).
 
Haverford got a No. 1 singles win when Caulfield came back to defeat Rosensteel 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) in a great match as the Fords also earned points at No. 3 and No. 6 singles.
 
The Ducks will look to improve to 2-1 when they visit the 23rd-ranked team in the nation, Swarthmore College, on March 2.
