SWARTHMORE, Pa. (March 2, 2013)
 – Despite jumping out to a 4-1 lead,  the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s tennis team fell short in its upset bid at No. 23 Swarthmore College Saturday, falling by a score of 5-4.

With the loss, Stevens drops to 1-2, while the win moves the Garnet to 2-0.

Stevens went 2-1 in doubles action, getting wins out of the first and second flight. Senior Chris Rosensteel (East Windsor, N.J.) and freshman Matthew Heinrich (Hendersonville, Tenn.) started things with a convincing 8-2 tally at No. 1, while freshman Ben Foran (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) and senior Shota Tasaki (Greenwich, Conn.) won 8-1 at second doubles.

Headed into singles up 2-1, the Ducks saw wins from Heinrich and Foran to open a 4-1 edge, but Swarthmore won the final four matches of the afternoon to protect its home courts and earn the victory.

Heinrich downed sophomore Max Sacks (Alpine, N.J.) 7-6, 6-0 at second singles, while Foran downed junior Max Kaye (Palm Beach, Fla.) 7-6, 6-2 at No. 3.

At the No. 1 slot, Rosensteel dropped a tough battle with junior Anthony Collard (Villanova, Pa.) 6-0, 3-6, 6-4, while junior Preston Poon (Scarsdale, N.Y.) pocketed a 6-2, 7-6(1) victory over Tasaki at No. 4. Sophomore Irving Stone (San Diego, Calif.) and senior Malik Mubeen (Radord, Va.) picked up wins over freshman Tyler Tisdale (Grapevine, Texas) and sophomore Nicholas Rosasco (Alpine, N.J.) at Nos. 5 and 6 to seal the come-from-behind win for the Garnet.

The Ducks will now practice for eight days before heading out to California on their Spring Break trip. On March 10, Stevens will battle No. 5 Bowdoin College in the first of three matches in Pomona.
