Macon, GA – The Elmira College Softball team swept the Wesleyan College Pioneers in dominating fashion, 22-0 and 15-3, Sunday afternoon to open the 2013 season. These wins improve the Soaring Eagles to 2-0, while the Pioneers fall to 0-2.
In game one EC dominated from the beginning scoring at least one run in the first five innings for a total of 22 runs on 20 hits. Classmates
Katie Day ’16 and
Ashley Palmer ’16 led the Soaring Eagle offense.
Day recorded four hits, two RBI’s and three runs, while
Palmer registered a two-run homerun and an RBI double. Also contributing in a big way was
Jackie Heggie ’16 who recorded a two-RBI triple and an RBI double.
Alex Puglisi ’14 earned the win for EC holding the Pioneers to a hit and a walk, while recording 13 strikeouts.
In game two EC continued to down the Pioneers scoring 10 runs in the first inning and playing tough in the field.
Katie Dore ’15 and
Gillian Gravel ’14 led the offense in the second game.
Dore recorded three hits in four at bats for EC, while scoring three runs.
Gravel registered two RBI singles in three at bats, while scoring two runs.
Katie Hobson ’13 and
Sarah Johnson ’15 split time on the mound for EC.
Hobson started the game pitching two innings allowing one hit and throwing four strikeouts.
Johnson finished the game pitching three innings allowing two hits and three runs while throwing three strikeouts.
The EC Softball team will return to action Tuesday, February 19 when it travels to Atlanta, GA to take on No. 23 Emory University in a non-conference double-header. First pitch will be at 12:30 p.m.
