The St. John Fisher men’s lacrosse team picked up its third-straight win on Tuesday afternoon, defeating The College at Brockport 9-7 in a nonconference matchup.  With the win, Fisher moves to 4-1 on the year while the Golden Eagles remain winless, falling to 0-4 overall.  The win marked the Cardinals seventh-straight win over Brockport, as Fisher holds a 9-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Fisher jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first quarter, but was held to just one goal over the next two stanzas.  However, after scoring just four goals in the first three quarters, Fisher exploded for five in the final 15 minutes to earn the win.

Jeff Wester led Fisher with four goals, including three in the fourth quarter. His third goal of the day, with 9:30 left to play put the Cardinals up for good at 6-5.  Fisher scored four-straight in the fourth quarter as Wester netted the first two followed by tallies from Greg Ramsden and Nick Rossi.

Ramsden made the score 7-5 with 8:34 to play on an unassisted effort, dodging past his defender and firing to the off-hip of Brockport’s Cory Bonwaree.  Rossi then scored three minutes later with a far bounce shot that skipped past Bonwaree to push Fisher’s lead to three.

The Golden Eagles cut the lead to one goal, scoring the next two of the game, but Wester tallied on an empty net with just under a minute left to put the game out of reach.

Scott Campbell led the transition game, as he tallied a career-high 12 ground balls to lead Fisher.  The midfielder also caused three turnovers.  Ryan Freije was again dominant on the face-off, winning 15-of-19, including 9-of-10 in the first half.

Brett Farrell had three points on the day (2 goals, 1 assist), while Michael Boisvert also had a goal.  Bryan Dyer and Kevin DeOrdio each had one assist.

Jamie Campagna totaled five saves in the winning effort.

Fisher will return to action at 2 p.m. onFriday afternoon when it hosts Endicott College in the opening game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Flower City Cup.
