Alfred Cruises Past Houghton, 37-4

The Alfred University men’s lacrosse team earned an undisputed fifth victory of the season against Houghton College in a 37-4 decision, Wednesday evening on the road.

Alfred was the clear victor from the start, dominating statistically in shots (93-13), groundballs (63-32), and face-off wins (26-17). AU scored at a consistent rate of 18 goals in the first half and 19 in the second.

The Saxon offense was led by sophomore attacker Nicolas Wood (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) with seven goals. Freshman midfielder Tanner Morse (Corning, NY/Corning East) also netted four goals. Freshman midfielder Nick Como (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) picked up a game-high 14 groundballs and earned a hat-trick with three goals.  Junior attacker Caleb McCaig (Corning, NY/Corning West) distributed a game-high six assists and scored three goals as well.

Sophomore Cody O’Connor (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) made three saves in 46 minutes before senior Theo Tomczak (Elba, NY/Elba) took over to make two saves to finish the contest.

Alfred (5-0, 0-0 Empire 8) returns home to face Keuka College on Wednesday, March 20th, at 6:30 p.m.
