Four Men's Basketball Players Named to D3hoops.com All-East Region Team
Four Empire 8 men’s basketball players have been named to the D3hoops.com All-East Region Team for the 2012-13 season.
Ithaca senior
Sean Rossi was a first team selection, while Stevens Institute of Technology senior
Sheldon Jones, Nazareth senior
Tyshun Stevens and St. John Fisher senior
Jason Norsen were tabbed to the second team.
Rossi leads the Bombers with 207assists on the season and has amassed 950 career assists to become the NCAA Division III record holder in assists. He averages 8.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Ithaca won its second consecutive Empire 8 tournament championship and earned the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The Bombers defeated Springfield on the road in the first round and then upset No. 18 Rochester on a last second tip-in to advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history. Ithaca faces No. 7 Middlebury on Saturday, March 16 at 4pm.
Jones was second in the conference in scoring and led the Ducks, averaging 17.3 points per game. He converted a 46.0 percent clip from the floor, 36.6 percent from long range and 86.6 percent at the free-throw line. He averaged 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
Stephens led the Golden Flyers in scoring at 16.6 points per game. He also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game and connected on 33 three-point shots. He also shot 78.7 percent (129-for-164) from the free throw line for the Golden Flyers, who finished 15-10 overall.
Norsen set the Fisher single-season record and ranks second in the nation in blocked shots with 89 (3.4 per game). He led the conference in field-goal percentage (62.4%) and ranks 11th in Division III. Norsen led Fisher in scoring (14.6 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rpg) as well.
