The Empire 8 Athletic Conference has announced the Track Athlete, Field Athlete, Rookie and Coach of the Year awards for the 2012-13 women’s indoor track and field season. The conference coaches vote on the awards.

Ithaca senior Jenn Randall has been voted the Track Athlete of the Year. Randall set the mile run school record of 4:54.98 in the preliminaries at the NCAA Championships before placing eighth in the finals and earning All-America honors for the first time. At the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship she rewrote her own 800-meter run record with a second-place finish of 2:14.38 and she also won the mile run in 4:55.88. Randall won the mile event at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference (NYSCTC) championship and won the 800 meter run at the Empire 8 Championship.

Ithaca senior Amanda Rissmeyer has been bestowed the award for Field Athlete of the Year. Rissmeyer earned her first All-American honor with a sixth place finish in the high jump at the NCAA Championship, clearing 1.65 meters on her first attempt. She also placed 11th in the pentathlon with 3,296 points. She had three season-best performances on the day finishing the 60 hurdles in 9.48, the shot put with an 11.49-meter heave and the 800 run with a time of 2:43.36.  Rissmeyer cleared a season-high 1.69 meters to win the high jump at the ECAC meet. She also won the high jump at the NYSCTC Championship and Empire 8 Championship.

Nazareth freshman Taylor Pierson was a clear favorite for Rookie of the Year after winning the long jump event at three championships and competing in the national meet. Pierson won the long jump with a leap of 5.46 meters at the Empire 8 Championship meet, she then leaped 5.48 meters to win the title at the NYSCTC Championship. She posted a career best and school record of 5.51m at the ECAC, which earned her a trip to the national meet where she placed tenth with a jump of 5.30m. Pierson is the second Nazareth track and field athlete -- and the first female -- to qualify for the national meet.

Ithaca’s Jennifer Potter has been named the Women’s Indoor Coach of the Year. Potter guided the Bombers to three Championship Team titles in 2012-13. Ithaca claimed its sixth consecutive Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championship, fifth straight New York State Collegiate Track Conference Indoor Championship title and its third ECAC Indoor Championship. The Bombers were ranked consistently throughout the season in the Atlantic Region and earned a national ranking as high as No. 13.
