Late Runs Lift Occidental Past Ithaca Baseball
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- A run in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted Occidental to a 9-8 win over the Ithaca College baseball team Wednesday at Anderson Field. The Bombers rallied back from an early 6-1 deficit to lead 8-7, but the host Tigers scored single runs in the bottom of the eighth and bottom of the ninth to win the game. The Bombers fell to 4-4 on the year, while Occidental improved to 15-2. Ithaca faces 18th-ranked Bridgewater (Va.) on Thursday at Claremont, Calif.
Tim Henry scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first for Ithaca and a Corey Caswell solo home run in the third accounted for Ithaca's second run.
The Bombers trailed 7-2 headed to the top of the seventh and started their comeback with a four-run inning. An RBI groundout brought in Locastro, then a walk and two-out double by Andrew Turner gave Ithaca another run. The next two runs scored on an infield single combined with an error.
Ithaca went ahead in the top of the eighth on RBI singles by Caswell and Max Addy.
Caswell finished the game 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Colby Gee was 2-for-4 with two runs. Christian Brown was Ithaca's other player with two hits, coming from the leadoff position. Occidental committed four errors in the game, and Ithaca was error-free for the second time in eight games this season, and the first time in the last six games.
Jasper Adams started and went six innings. He settled down after allowing six runs in the first two innings and recorded three strikeouts. Zach Pidgeon pitched the seventh, and Brandon Diorio took the loss in pitching the last two innings.
