Pioneers Extend Win Streak to Four with Victory Over Sage
Utica, NY (3/13/13)- The Utica College women’s lacrosse team extended its season-opening win streak to four games as it downed visiting Sage College 19-3 Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Louise Steele-Norton led UC with five goals in her first career game.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 13-1 lead at the half led by goals from Steele-Norton, Patricia Kane, Morgan DuPont, Megan Kane, and Julia Primps. UC went on to control play through most of the second half, outscoring the Gators 6-2 in the second frame.
Steele-Norton finished the day with five goals and two assists, while classmates Megan Kane and Patricia Kane each netted three goals. Patricia also had five draw controls. Freshman Colleen Dowling and sophomore Morgan DuPont each collected two goals and two assists, while Julia Primps (two goals, one assist), Courtney Wheeler (one goal, two assists), and Vanessa Maines (one goal, three assists) also scored for Utica. Junior Lindsey Gelles added an assist, two ground balls and one caused turnover on the day.
UC out shot the visitors 42-7 on the day, while holding a 30-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Pioneers also scooped up 20 ground balls and took an 18-4 advantage on draw controls. Senior Stephanie Belanger had one save in the win.
UC returns to action Friday as it travels to Clarkson University for a 4 p.m. game.
