#15 Ithaca Falls to #8 Franklin & Marshall, 12-7
CLERMONT, Fla. – The 15th-ranked Ithaca College women’s lacrosse team (2-2) fell to eighth-ranked Franklin & Marshall (3-1), 12-7, on Thursday afternoon at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
Ithaca was unable to rebound from a 4-0 deficit just 13 minutes into the game. Both squads netted two in the final six minutes of the first half with the Diplomats holding a 6-2 gap at intermission. The Bombers and Dips went goal-for-goal in the second stint. Franklin & Marshall once netted back-to-back scores at 6:37 and 5:05 to edge Ithaca, 6-5, in the latter half.
Ithaca owned a 29-27 margin in shots, while F&M claimed a 25-24 advantage in ground balls and an 11-10 lead in draws.
Freshman Allison Runyon, who tied a career high, and senior Sam Whitney each scored a pair of goals to lead the Bombers. Senior Tracy Rivas had one goal and two assists to go along with a three ground balls. Classmate Michelle Avery and sophomore Molly Fischer each tallied once. Junior defender Katie Long forced two turnovers.
Senior Jess Worthman made a season-high nine saves and scooped up a trio of ground balls for the Blue & Gold.
The Bombers return to Higgins Stadium for a 4 p.m. game on Tuesday, March 19 when they host Buffalo State.
