Utica Falls to Clarkson in Triple Overtime

Potsdam, NY (3/15/13)- The Utica College women’s lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker Friday afternoon as it fell to host Clarkson University 12-11 in triple overtime.  Sophomore Megan Kane led the way with four goals for the Pioneers.

UC led 6-5 at halftime, but the Golden Knights were able to outscore the Pioneers 4-3 in the second half to force overtime.  Freshman Courtney Wheeler gave Utica a 10-9 lead in the first overtime, and Morgan DuPont added her third of the day, but Clarkson answered with two goals of its own in the second overtime.  Christine Wright netted the game winner at 1:28 of the third overtime to lift the Golden Knights to victory. 

Wheeler finished the day with three goals, while sophomore Samantha Gebler had a goal and two assists.  Megan Kane had four goals and a team-high four draw controls.  Junior Julia Primps also added an assist for UC. 

Senior Stephanie Belanger made nine saves in the loss while Clarkson’s Kara DiNatale had eight saves.  UC (4-1) returns to action Tuesday, March 26 as it travels to Oswego State.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
