Indianapolis, Ind. – Senior Becca Salant of the Ithaca College women's soccer team has been awarded a Postgraduate Scholarship by the NCAA. Salant was one of 29 winners selected from nominations – encompassing NCAA Division I, II and III – that included all women's fall sports.
D3Soccer.com Goalkeeper of the Year and First-Team all-America selection, Salant is earning her degree in clinical health studies from Ithaca. She was named to the NCAA Division III Academic All-America Women's Soccer Team. Salant was a second-team selection after earning first-team all-district honors. Additionally, she received NSCAA College Division Scholar All-America second-team nods after being named to the NSCAA College Division Scholar All-East Region First Team.
Salant was named to the All-Empire 8 first team this season. Ranking fourth in the nation with a save percentage of .914 and seventh with a goals-against average of .369, Salant collected 11 complete shutouts. Salant made 85 saves during 1,949 minutes in goal. This season she was twice dubbed Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week.
She is the 11th Bomber student-athlete to earn an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and it marks the fourth consecutive year Ithaca has had a scholarship recipient.
To qualify, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate study. Student-athletes must also maintain at least a 3.2 grade-point average and be nominated by their institution’s faculty athletics representative. Created in 1964, NCAA postgraduate scholarships promote and encourage education by rewarding the Association’s most accomplished student-athletes.
