Fisher Cruises Past Western New England

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team snapped a two-game losing streak on Sunday, as the 14th-ranked Cardinals cruised to a 19-5 win over visiting Western New England University at Fisher’s Growney Stadium.

With the win, Fisher improves to 4-2, while Western New England falls to 4-2.

Fisher took control from the opening moments.  After winning the opening draw, Lindsey Shoales scored off a pass from Kristen Zylka just 20 seconds into the game.  Sixty-eight seconds later, Zylka set up Taylor Hughes for her first of three goals on the day and the Cardinals were well on their way.
 
Fisher led 4-0 with 23:30 left in the first half and pushed its lead to 11-2 at intermission.  The Cardinals scored three of the first goals of the second half and stayed in control for the remainder of the game.
 
Senior All-American Melissa Leonhard led Fisher on the day with six points on five goals and one assist.  She also scooped up a team-high four ground balls.   Hughes finished with five points on three goals and two assists, while Zylka tallied four points on one goal and three assists.

Shoales finished with three goals, while Sam Barton tallied three points on one goal and two assists.

Erin Ward posted one goal and one assist, while Jill Zerrillo, Kara Ledgerwood, Chrissy Cook and Emily Bryerton also scored in the win.

Caroline Trpcevski stopped four shots in 32 minutes of action to earn the win in goal.

Fisher will return to action at 2 p.m. next Saturday and will host SUNY Oneonta.
