NABC Recognizes Three from Empire 8
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2013 NABC Coaches’ Division III All-District teams and coaches, recognizing the best men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes and coaches in the division, selected by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division III.
Three Empire 8 Athletic Conference athletes have been named to the first and second All-District Teams. Stevens Institute of Technology Sheldon Jones and Ithaca’s Sean Rossi were selected to the first team while St. John Fisher College’s Jason Norsen earned second team honors.
Jones was second in the conference in scoring and led the Ducks, averaging 17.3 points per game. He converted a 46.0 percent clip from the floor, 36.6 percent from long range and 86.6 percent at the free-throw line. He averaged 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
Rossi set the NCAA Division III all-time assists record on Feb. 22 during a 70-63 victory in an Empire 8 semifinal against Fisher. He surpassed the previous record of 917 since 2003. Rossi amassed 957 career assists to rank eighth all-time across all divisions. He led the Bombers (21-9) with 214 assists on the season, averaging 7.1 per contest to rank fourth nationally. Rossi chipped in 8.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per outing and 21 steals in 30 starts for Ithaca.
Norsen set the Fisher single-season record and ranks second in the nation in blocked shots with 89 (3.4 per game). He led the conference in field-goal percentage (62.4%) and ranks 11th in Division III. Norsen led Fisher in scoring (14.6 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rpg) as well.
