SHENANDOAH, TX
- Empire 8 men's and women's swimming and diving athletes competed on the first day of competition at the NCAA Championships held at the Conroe Natatorium in Shenandoah, TX. Seven  individuals and two relay teams achieved All-American status.

The top-eight finishers earn All-America status and numbers nine through 16 notch honorable mention All-America distinction.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s swimming team is in sixth place with a team total of 51points. Hartwick stands 21st and Ithaca is in 27th. 

 
Stevens sophomore Brittany Geyer placed eighth in the 200-IM final to get the Ducks started. Her 2:04.92 finish netted her All-America honors.

Ithaca senior Carly Jones finished 12th in the consolation finals of the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:06.28.


Junior Louise Moores was fifth in the 50-free final with a time of 23.35, locking up her first All-America honor of the championship meet. Hartwick sophomore Jade Woodend had a ninth place finish in the 50 free with a final time of 23.35 . 
 
In the final event of the Wednesday’s session, Moores, Geyer, Sharon Rooker and Jennifer Rutledge set a new Stevens' school-record with a 1:43.98 in the 200-medley relay, placing fifth overall and tallying 26 team points. 


MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
The Ducks have a team total of 38 points, good for eighth place after the first day of competition.  Hartwick sits in 21st.

Stevens sophomore Wesley Elford placed eighth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:31.90 and Hartwick senior Kenny Kleso posted a time of 4:29.70 for 12th place.  Elfords time of 4:39.09 in the prelims set a new school-record by exactly two seconds.
 
In the 200-yard individual medley prelim, senior John Hu placed 13th with a 1:50.06.
 
The Stevens quartet of Greg Charriez, Simas Jarasunas, Daniel Munt and Tyler Hessler was eighth in the 200-medley final, just missing a new program-record with a time of 1:30.94. 
 
OTHER ACTION
Ithaca senior diver Kloe Boeckel also competed on the first day of the NCAA meet. She was in the women's 3-meter diving preliminaries, and scored 397.25 in the preliminary round to place 19th.

Hartwick's Lydon Schultz swam in the 50 free in the morning session and was 37th in 21.24. The 200 medley relay team of Kleso, Schultz, Cory Perez and Brad Ranson placed 19th. 

The Bomber men didn't advance any swimmers through to the event finals. In the 50-yard freestyle, Zack Kundel placed 25th overall with a time of 20.79 seconds and Jake Robbins was 36th with a time of 21.15 seconds. The Bombers' 200-yard medley relay team of Adam Zelehowsky, Robbins, Peter Knight and Kundel was disqualified after an illegal start during the race.
