Seven Individual and Five Relay Teams Claim All-America Honors on Day 2

SHENANDOAH, Texas -  Empire 8 men's and women's swimming and diving athletes completed the second day of competition at the NCAA Championships held at the Conroe Natatorium in Shenandoah, TX. The E8 athletes combined for seven individual and five relay All-America honors. 

The top-eight finishers earn All-America status and numbers nine through 16 notch honorable mention All-America distinction.

The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team is in seventh place after two days of action with 88 points. Kenyon is leading the pack at 286. Denison is in second with 228 and MIT is third (204). Johns Hopkins is fourth (179), Emory is fifth (160) and Amherst is sixth (91). The Ithaca College men's team is 18th with 26 points and Hartwick College is in 34th place (5).

On the women's side, Stevens is also in seventh place after the second day. The Ducks have 105 points. Emory is in first at 312.5, while Kenyon is in second at 254. Denison is third (198), Williams is fourth (197.5), Johns Hopkins is fifth and Amherst is sixth.  Hartwick is in 26th (9) and Ithaca is 29th (7).
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Stevens' team of senior Daniel Munt, freshman Joshua Lefeber, freshman Bryon Held and junior Tyler Hessler opened the finals with a 1:22.25 in the 200-free relay, good for tenth place. The Ithaca College 200-yard freestyle relay of Peter Knight, Adam Zelehowsky, Zack Kundel and Jake Robbins swam a time of 1:22.63 to place 13th overall.

Stevens senior John Hu turned in a third place swim in the 400-IM, touching the wall in school-record time of 3:53.16. Hu broke his own school-record by almost two seconds.

Bomber diver Martin Brown placed seventh overall in the 1-meter board event finals with a score of 456.30, while Matt Morrison was 11th overall with a score of 446.60.
 
In the final event of Day 2, Greg Charriez, Simas Jarasunas, Munt and Shawn Hanak all earned All-America honors by taking eighth with a time of 3:20.78 in the 400-yard medley relay.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
To open the night, the Stevens' team of sophomore Nicole Miller, sophomore April Lawson, freshman Jennifer Rutledge and junior Louise Moores clocked a 1:35.41 in taking 10th in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
 
Freshman Elizabeth Heinbach was 14th in the 400-yard individual medley with a school record time of 4:28.75. 

Moores clocked a 55.15 in taking sixth in the 100 butterfly finals, setting a new school record. Ithaca College swimmer Carly Jones placed 15th overall with a time of 56.96 seconds. She was 16th in the preliminaries with a school-record time of 56.37 seconds.

Sophomore Sharon Rooker, sophomore Brittany Geyer, Moores and Rutledge were seventh in the 400-medley with a time of 3:49.50.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
Hartwick swimmer Kenny Kleso set a new school record in the preliminaries of the men's 200 freestyle. Kleso's time of 1:40.16 put him in 24th place and bested the previous time of 1:40.27 that was set last year. Teammate Brad Ranson was 35th in a personal best time of 1:41.48, while Ithaca's Zelehowsky placed 33rd with a time of 1:41.22. 

Hartwick sophomore Jade Woodend competed in the women's 200 free event. She finished 35th with a final time of 1:54.03.

The 200 free relay squad of Kleso, Ranson, Miles Blaney and Lydon Schultz placed 20th in their event.

Action continues from the Conroe Natatorium on Friday.  Preliminary events begin each day at 10 a.m. with finals sessions beginning at 6 p.m. A video webcast of each session is available through NCAA.com, and live timing and scoring will be available.
