UC Baseball Falls to Undefeated UW-Oshkosh on Final Day in Florida
Fort Myers, Fla. (3/22/2013) – The Utica College baseball team wrapped up its final day at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida with a 9-6 loss to undefeated University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Friday morning. The Pioneers scored all six of their runs in the final four frames, but they could not manage the complete comeback as their overall record dropped to 1-7 on the year. Despite losing seven games down south the Pioneers proved to be competitive the entire way, losing five of seven games by three runs or less, including three games by just one run.
UC returns to the diamond up north on the road Wednesday when it travels to Oswego State for a non-conference double header beginning at 2 p.m.
UWO sophomore pitcher Joe Pavlovich had a no-hitter through 5.1 innings, facing just one batter over the minimum, while Utica left the bases loaded in the seventh inning before scoring four runs over the course of the next two innings. The game featured nine errors, including six by the Titans.
Chris Podlucky went 2-for-4 on the day for UC with one RBI, while Nick Perkins and Benjamin Hobaica accounted for the Pioneers other two hits. Vincent Burillo scored a team-high two runs, while Tyler Young, Nick Dunbar, Thomas Dinnen and Hobaica each scored one run a piece for the Pioneers.
Joshua Webb struck out three and did not allow a run in 3.2 innings of work for Utica, while junior Chris Jeffers started the game and pitched 3.1 innings, scattering six hits in his second loss of the year.
Pavlovich struck out six in 6.2 innings of work for the Titans (9-0). Beattie and Peterson each recorded three hits for UWO.
