Second Half Struggles for Elmira Lead to Loss at Keuka

Keuka Park, NY – The Elmira College Men’s Lacrosse team was tied at halftime, but got outscored 7-1 in the second half as it fell, 14-8, to host Keuka College Saturday afternoon at Penn Yan Academy. The win improves the Storm to 2-1, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 1-4.

Jackson Correia ’14 led Elmira with three scores, while David Evert ’14 recorded two goals and an assist. TJ Duffy ’16 went an impressive 17-for-23 in the faceoff circle including picking up seven ground balls, while Brian Conzola ’14 added a goal and six ground balls.

The Purple and Gold led 3-2 after the first quarter behind goals from Correia, Evert and Tyler Campbell ’13. Keuka responded with three straight scores in the first eight minutes of the second quarter. However, Elmira answered tallying four of the next six goals to tie the game at seven at intermission.

The second half was controlled by the Storm as they outscored Elmira 7-2 including two goals apiece from James Voigt and Connor Latimer. Keuka held advantages in shots on goal (30-24) and ground balls (41-32), while EC had a big edge in face-offs (18-7).

Dave Bucchino ’13 stopped 16 shots for Elmira, while Mike Knowlton ’14 replaced him the final 1:19 in net. Eric Saltrelli made 16 saves in the win for Keuka.

The Men’s Lacrosse team returns to action Saturday, March 30th when it hosts Swarthmore College at 1:00 p.m. at Elmira Free Academy.
